VOLUNTEERING / OUTREACH
MATHCOUNTS
The Dayton Society of Professional Engineers (DSPE) plays a vital role in supporting the Dayton Area MATHCOUNTS program, helping to foster mathematical excellence among middle school students. DSPE members actively organize and facilitate the local MATHCOUNTS competition, ensuring that students from various schools have the opportunity to showcase their problem-solving skills in a competitive and engaging environment.
Through their involvement, DSPE volunteers contribute to the growth of STEM education, providing mentorship and encouragement to young math enthusiasts. The competition, held at Wright State University, brings together students from multiple schools, preparing them for state and national-level contests.
Additionally, DSPE’s commitment to STEM outreach helps strengthen the pipeline of future engineers and technical professionals in the Dayton region. Their efforts ensure that students develop confidence in their mathematical abilities, setting the foundation for careers in engineering and related fields.
IMAGINE ENGINEERING
The Imagine Engineering Coloring Contest is a statewide, youth education program for second graders. It was established in 1999 and is sponsored by the Engineers Foundation of Ohio. This education program allows second grade teachers to download and present an educational video and schedule a classroom visit from a local member of the Ohio Society of Professional Engineers (NSPE-Ohio).
