3D Concrete Printing (3DCP) today is widely covered by the media, and has been hyped as the “Affordable”, “Sustainable”, and “Durable” future of housing. Going beyond the talking points requires implementing new processes and procedures that touches every trade in the construction process. From design to completion, what we are learning as the builders of Ohio’s first 3D printed homes.
Mr. Smoll has always had a passion for construction and residential design. At the age of 23, John started his own construction company and, over the next 16 years, grew his business into a successful operation specializing in residential, commercial and agricultural projects. In 2014, John sold his company, relocated to Elida, Ohio and launched Open Vision Builders, Inc., a residential construction firm focused on custom homes. In 2022, longtime friend Nathan Metz proposed to John the idea of building a 3D-printed concrete home in Ohio. With Nathan and Anthony McMichael, they embarked on the groundbreaking venture culminating in the completion of Ohio’s first 3D-printed home in early 2024. This gave birth to Sustainable Concrete Innovations, LLC, a company dedicated to creating and making available, affordable, sustainable 3D-printed homes.
