May 2026 Presentation

This Residential Solar presentation answers all your questions around rooftop solar installations – the environmental and financial advantages of solar energy, the processes and equipment for generating solar energy and local grid connections, and the financial and physically installation of rooftop solar panels. The environmental and financial overview touches on the energy sources used in Ohio, the recent history and rise of electrical generation costs for Dayton-area utility providers, and the break-even calculations for solar. The processes of residential solar include design and practical considerations, the different types of equipment, and the specifics of net metering. Finally, the financial section addresses the various payment methods for acquiring solar, the pros and cons of each, and the warranty and expected lifetime performance of rooftop solar panels.

James Deyerle, PE, is a lead mechanical engineer at MasTec Professional Services, and leads a team that designs pipeline distribution projects. James has a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from Rice University in Houston, TX, and earned his PE in 2017. His career has focused on both ends of the Oil & Gas industry but has a hobbyist interest in renewable energy and has been a solar homeowner since Fall 2023.
